A computer is necessary to access course materials outside of class. It also enables performing part or all of the lab assignments outside of the classroom, which is more convenient for many students. This page describes the requirements for various activities.
Accessing the course materials only requires being able to read the provided media (DVD or CD). Everything on the media used in the Digital Systems sequence can be downloaded instead if you don't have a DVD drive.

(1) For most lab assignments the designs are first simulated and then demonstrated on the evaluation boards. The simulations can be performed without these items and the student can complete the assignments in the classroom using the class computers which have these facilities.
(2) The oscilloscope is used to verify signals are correct. This can be done in a few minutes time in class.
